The Science of Gondry
Client: Swinburne University
Category: Editorial design / digital design
THE BRIEF
To create a publication that explores Michel Gondry’s unique filmmaking aesthetic, whilst also examining the evidence of the influence of Georges Méliès and Busby Berkeley within his body of work. The brief also specifically outlined the exploration of of three of Gondry’s music videos, visually exploring how each show evidence of Berkeley/Méliès’ influence.
THE OUTCOME
My aim for this project was the development of a strong visual outcome that expressed the bold, handmade, surreal style that Gondry often incorporates throughout his work. Using two typefaces and a colour palette that connected to key Gondry films, The Science of Gondry reflects a childlike curiosity that is often embedded within the work of Gondry, Berkeley and Méliès. Various collages were created for the publication’s artwork to provide visually interesting outcomes that connect to the text whilst also connecting to Gondry’s DIY style.
